Jakarta Regional Head Election to choose a new governor and deputy governor will be held in 2017. However, speculations and activities related to the right candidates to lead the Capital have already begun.

Indeed, although the candidates for governor and vice governor have not been determined definitively, a number of names have emerged approaching the election in 2017. Incumbent Governor of DKI Jakarta, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok is still the strongest candidate among a number of names, ranging from political party leaders, businessmen, and religious leaders to entertainers. Even much earlier, some other regional heads known to have shown good performances in their respective cities, such as Bandung Mayor, Ridwan Kamil and Surabaya Mayor, Tri Rismaharini, have also been considered being worthy of competing with Ahok in 2017.
