Elections to the House of Representatives and State Legislative Assembly in Malaysia follow the first-past-the-post system (FPTP) where the candidate who receives the most votes in his/her contesting seat win. The party or coalition who secures more than half of the parliamentary seats will form the federal government and the party or coalition who secures more than half of the state seats will form the state government.
