Legal Framework

The right to suffrage in Malaysia is guaranteed by its Federal Constitution. A number of laws and regulations have been enacted for the conduct of elections. They are the following:

  • Election Commission Act 1957
  • Elections Act 1958
  • Election Offences Act 1954
  • Election (Conduct of Elections) Regulations 1981
  • Election (Registration of Electors) Regulations 2002
  • Election (Postal Voting) Regulations 2003
