Direct Democracy

According to Article 8(1) of the Constitution of Singapore, amendment to Part III Protection of the Sovereignty of the Republic of Singapore in the Constitution shall not be passed in Parliament unless it has been supported, at a national referendum, by not less than two-thirds of the total number of votes cast by the registered electors.

The first and only referendum held in Singapore was the referendum on integration into the Federation of Malaysia held on 1 September 1962.
